Seychelles 'Our Heroine' Bootie

I got these light-ish brown booties about 2 years ago from Urban Outfitters. They are Seychelles and cost me about $70 (on sale too). I normally don't pay $70 for anything and don't even know why I got the shoes at that price, but I did. I always like to think that shoes wise, this was the best $70 that I ever spent...as in these booties are ridiculously comfortable and stylish (In my opinion + I've gotten a lot of compliments on 'em). Plus, I'm a big fan of walking tall and these booties add an extra 4 inches to my height while giving me the added benefit of real comfort. They are so comfy that I wear them to traipse around places like NYC (where folks walk everywhere), and generally rock them as an 'every day Jesus' kinda steez. In fact, to show how comfy these booties are, I once wore them while I stood for 7 straight hours helping my friend sell Suya during the Independence day parade festivities in NY. From the way I'm gushing about these booties, I'm sure y'all can tell that I really luuurve them. Aniwoos to cut a potentially long story short, sometimes I find myself wishing that I'll find the black version of these for a completely more versatile look. I mean, the light brown is pretty versatile but the black would be even more versatile...and today, my wish was granted. I happened to be doing the usual window shopping at DSW.com, and saw my babies in black. I was so excited! Granted they cost the same yeye $70 but I was very happy to close eye and pay the $70 for 'em. Definitely can't wait to get 'em in the mail....I can definitely go to bed happy now, heehee... :-)

As usual, I've been drooling over some items from my favorite store....

1. Well, these shoes technically aren't on my wishlist anymore since I just ordered 'em. Love the wedge + peeptoe thing that it has going on.

2. I want this jacket in my life. I love the puffed sleeves...tres cute! At $150, I can only wish...

3. Now y'all know I love me some stripes. I really like this oversized sweatshirt. I could do it with shorts, tights and those red peeptoe wedges :-D
4. Ahhh these delicious looking fuschia heels shall be mine very soon, just you wait and see!
5. Last but not least, these boots are gawj. I'm just trying to figure out if a size 10 will fit moi...maybe I'll go and try 'em on in the store. Like I really want me some boots like these for every day waka about.

Recent Purchases from Urban Outfitters

All from one of my favorite stores...the great Urban Outfitters. I swear, as much stuff that I buy from them, I should own some kind of stock in the company. Mchewww

These purchases range from today, to the last couple of months. Just felt like sharing...

1. Just purchased these online, today. They are on sale. I don't own a nice pair of pants...all the pants I own either fall into the Jeans category, or things of the leggings-ish kind. So I'm really keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that these fit. That's the thing about ordering stuff online...

2. I'm a sucker for interesting looking accessories. I liked this ring, and it's also on sale. *Note:- I never buy anything full price at UO. Okay, almost never.

3. Basic black caddy...I really need one, and like the others this was also on sale.

4. Mustard yellow and 'red' heels. I got these at full price, which is very rare. I relented and bought this and the 'red' (which is really a coral-ish, orange-ish) color. They cost $48 each, which ain't bad and abeg they had the very elusive size 11 so I had to snatch 'em up real quick. These were definitely a great buy! They are very comfortable and can be quite versatile...

For all the people who liked my Twit avatar and asked where I got the shoes from, now you have it.

5. Black lace top. It was part of the $5 sale and it's tres cute!

6. Remember this Cami which I drooled over in a previous post? I happened to walk into the store and saw it on the $20 rack, so I quickly snatched it up. Yaay, finally got my cami :-)

Urban Outfitters - The great big $5 sale

I love browsing the UO website... You just never know what could have been marked down. Sooo I was browsing today, and stumbled across this undercover $5 sale...as in blink and you missed it. So you know your girl quickly filled her cart. Here's what I got...

1. This lil striped dress - Gotta be my favorite pick of them all. I love stripes, and I can totally dress this up or down.
2. This Lucca Couture Chambray Jacket - I was definitely digging the way the back is cut...see 2nd picture. I have no idea how it will fit, and if all else fails...I will take it right back to the store.

3. Black Crochet knit romper - I'm looking forward to getting this. I think it'd be a versatile piece ie lounge around the spot or pair it with tights and a caddy in the fall...anything can happen with this one.

4. I've been looking for a black basic mini, I hope this will be the one. And if all goes well, I might just go for it's sister in Grey - see picture below.

5. Ecote Circle skirt - I will admit, I love me some polka dots and stripes. I like mixing prints, and could see myself mixing a lil somn' on the floral side with this really cute skirt. Looking forward to receiving it in the mail...
6. BDG Raglan tee - Hey, I said I loved stripes right? :)
All for $5 each, you can't beat that. And this was really on some 'blink and you missed it', because I just went to the website this evening, and the romper, striped dress and the striped tee were all gone.

I know, I know...this blog has been seriously neglected. I can't pinpoint a specific reason but aniwoos, in the light of a comeback, here's some random cute stuff I've peeped on my 2 favorite online stores to window shop ---> UrbanOutfitters and Forever21.

1. This very darling cami (UO). At $38, I wouldn't buy it but if they knock it down a bit more, I'd consider it. I'm suffering from a case of too many dresses, and need some more tops/separates in my life.

2. I peeped this dress on Forever21.com. I think it's definitely cute...

3. I like this skirt from F21, It could serve as a nice basic with which to pair different things with.

4. Me loves this dress. UO never fails to disappoint with their dresses. I definitely added it to my wishlist :)
5. These teal shorts from F21 are tres cute. These can also serve as a nice basic...it's summer time, time to showcase them legs in a cute pair of shorts like these.
6. I'm kinda over the Romper craze but I could make an exception for these ones from F21. I love the prints...very cute and colorful.

1. These cuteeeeeee sequin shorts. I absolutely heart, heart, heart. *Adds to wish list*

2. This sequin mini. I've been hunting for a sequin mini for the longest...Ebay keeps failing me and the Etsy sellers are trippin. At $16, I say...not bad at all!

Meanwhile, I just copped these today...

Couldn't resist this oh so cute leopard print dress from UO, and it was on sale too.

Hmmm make una come see me see Forever21 ooo, bringing us tall caged booties. Very nice, if I may say. When I initially saw them, my first reaction was 'bring out the VISA' but I slept on it. (That sleeping on a purchase thing really works o...hahahaha). I do like these, I just think that they might be a tad bit too trendy + how many times will I actually wear 'em? That aside, I think that they are quite gorg and for $40, I say...not bad at all.
2. This black top is on my wish list, I think that it is tres cute...
3. I showed this Shaggy vest to a couple of people and they laughed at me. LOL, I still likey it a lot, I just don't feel like paying $38 for it.

4. These adorable shoes from Urban Outfitters, they got marked down from $70 to $50. Not too terrible... I could totally pair 'em with a couple of 'fits.
5. I am still not over my jump suit craze. These are $29, and the minute UO marks them down to $19, it's a wrap. Isn't it funny, how there can be such a huge difference between paying $30 and paying $20 for an outfit?

Mayne, I feel like doing like Nicey m and dropping some serious dough all at once at one of these stores. LOL.

Christian Siriano just dropped his new Fall collection for Payless shoe store and I am definitely LOVING what I see...

If you're more on the adventurous side, you won't mind these boots at all...

These shoes are quite LOVELY. Absolutely love 'em!
These boots had me calling all the Payless Shoe Stores around my district in a bid to find the size 11's. Unfortunately, I was unable to track 'em down (even after trying the one in VA)...will let you guys know if the 10's fit. I'm off to try on a pair after work...I adore, adore, adore!

And last but not least, I think that these pumps are quite the darlings, aren't they?

All these lovely shoes can be copped at your local Payless Shoe Store (If they carry the designer brands) or the good ol' payless.com and at prices ranging from $34.99-$49.99, I say that's a pretty darn good STEAL.

Forever 21 Shoes

...So the leather jacket in the previous post was FAB. The pants however, didn't fit right so I sent them back to the store and decided to use my store credit to purchase these instead...

The largest size in Forever 21 is a 10 so I definitely hope that they fit. *Crosses fingers*...ze shoes are quite naiiice. Bakers actually had their $70 and some change version so I was certainly excited to see these for $28.

H&M Sequin leggings

Y'all were right about the shoes in the previous post. They even fit kinda funny so they went right back to the store.

In better news, I saw these sequin leggings in the pages of Teen Vogue. Yes, I actually prefer Teen Vogue to the 'Adult' Vogue. Sue me. :-D...so aniwoos I saw these leggings and instantly fell in love. And at $20, I knew that I had to have 'em so I went a-hunting and found them at my nearby H&M. They were even the LAST pair and OMG, they were in my size...yipppeeeee. So y'all, I am the proud owner of this new pair of sequin leggings.

I've been wanting a pair ever since Express came out with their $98 version which I attempted acquiring many times on Ebay but the foolish bidders kept on overbidding. Mchewwww....so take that, Express! Mine cost $20.... :-D

I just discovered the $9.99 and under section @ urbanoutfitters.com and look what I copped for $4.99 each. You really can't beat 'em at these prices.

1. This delightfully cute mono-kini. Oooh weee, can't wait to get 'em in the mail. Now I definitely have to harrass one or 2 people to throw a pool party so that I can show this one off. *crosses fingers and hopes that it fits as per UO's sizes be kinda wack sometimes*

2. Black cowl helm top. I have a sequined bandeau thingy that I found at Salvation army so I think it will be purrfect with this one.

Update on the shoes in previous post:- The size 10's were too tight so I did some do or die business and had someone from the Nine West store order me a pair since size 11's were sold out online. Got my size 11's and my goodness, the shoes are pure sex. Just wanted to share! :-D

Say hello to my newest babies. They are in the mail as I type... :-)

I haven't had much online stuff to post, as I haven't seen a lot of ish that I like online. Been doing more shopping in person and I get lazy when it comes to taking pictures and uploading...

So I've been on this quest to buy like shoes that I feel like I'd wanna sleep in and these shoes absolutely did it for me. Absolutely can't wait to get 'em....the only thing is I got 'em in a 10 and I usually wear an 11 so cross your fingers and wish me luck!

Speaking of shoes that I'd like to sleep in, I think I can comfortably say that these shoes are turning into something like my 'everyday Jesus'. They are sooo comfortable and they look hot with everything plus with 4inch heels, I can tower above all the midgets. LOL! Yup, I think it just might win the award for my most favorite shoes in my closet so far...

How to thrift...

In this recession, thrifting appears to have become more popular. I have heard people accuse others of hopping on the thrifting bandwagon and following a trend. Others have said 'Na wa o, everybody wan wear vintage' and what not. Well, whatever your motive...whether you've been doing it before it supposedly became popular or you just hopped on the bandwagon to save some money/feel cool/whatever...I decided to write up some guidelines for this thrifting thing.

1. You have to be patient. Goodwill stores/Salvation Army/Value Village thrift stores and all those others spots are not glamorous by any stretch of your imagination. You will walk in there and probably be slammed with a musty ol' school scent. The clothes are not organized by color and size, you just have to be extra patient as you rift through the numerous racks. Think of Marshalls but on a more disorganized level. Ok, I take that back...I did go to this Value Village where everything was organized by size. Infact that particular value village was very organized sha.
And to their credit, these stores stack the pants in one area, dresses in one area and blazers/tops in another so it's not as ridiculous as you might think. However if you are patient and determined to walk away with good finds, it will be very worth your while.

2. Don't go in there with a snooty attitude/Keep an open mind. The truth of the matter is that these stores typically have clothing and shoes that were previously owned by someone else. If you ever looked down on the concept of bend down boutique in Naija then sorry...this might not be your scene. Thrifting aint for every one sha.

3. Vintage sizes typically run smaller. If you see a shirt that says a size L and you are 145lbs, eyeball it and don't be afraid to try it on. In my various thrift store jaunts I've discovered that vintage sizes run smaller than stated, i.e with the white jumpsuit that I spoke of in my previous post, it was a size M and in reality fits more like a size S.

4. Explore! I usually google thrift stores in any new zipcode that I'm in and I stop by to see what is popping off around those parts. I also discovered that the more stylish the city is, the more interesting their thrift store joints are. Speaking of which, I absolutely gotta visit a Value Village in Atlanta because everytime I see this chick's finds...Jay Loves Vintage I'm always like 'For real?'.
But you don't have to restrict yourself to the thrift stores. I also check out Consignment stores like Buffalo Exchange (Gotten some really good stuff from here), Plato's Closet (Found some FAB finds here), and Retrospect in Philadelphia... (Found cuteee stuff here including this vintage suitcase that everybody loves).

5. Don't forget to wash and dryclean your purchases. Like I said, it was probably owned by someone else and been tried on by a rack of other folk before you. I always wash my purchases and send the ones to the drycleaned to the drycleaners and it's smooth sailing from there.

Follow these tips, pick up some of yours and if thrifting is something you can hang with, you will be amazed at what good things you will find. I was first put on the idea of visiting these Goodwill stores during a trip to San Francisco (The best thrift stores are in San Fran)...the people are very stylish and I guess they donate the stylish stuff to these stores. I found a pair of yellow BCBG heels for $6, and some Paolo heels for $8 and from there I was hooked. Initially I just used to look at the shoes and accessories then I graduated to the clothes and man I've really gotten some good stuff. Infact it's gotten to the level that most of what I wear is thrifted...from my $6 dresses that I wear to weddings to $4 dresses that I wear to parties and looking at me, you'd never tell. Gotta love it!

At $169, who am I kidding? But one can only dream right? *sigh*
This vest is hot. I like the rocker-ish chic look. It's currently $50 and I'm waiting for the price to drop some more. :-D

Love the zippers on these pants. Also waiting for a good sale.

I've been eyeing these pants for a minute now. I love the pop of color...currently $20 after I waited long and hard for the prices to drop. I say Yay!

Went thrifting on Friday after work. I just discovered the beauty of Value Village Thrift store...I mainly used to be a Goodwill/Salvation Army chick. Anyways, I spent a total of approx $27 and picked up the following items:

Sequined jumpsuit- Black. At $15, twas the most expensive find but my lawd, it is soooo cute. It has a sequined bodice, an open back (no bras allowed) and harem style pants. I will attempt to post pictures but it's one of those things that look hotter when you see it on as opposed to on a hanger so is there any point?

Green mod dress- $4. I liked the color and figured it could be dressed up and down, as I see fit.

White jumpsuit- $6. I'm pretty excited about this one too. Lately I've been on the hunt for jumpsuits/rompers and with these 2 new additions, that brings my count to about 8. Not bad at all! I really wanted white too and it will be purrfect for the summer. Can be dressed up or down too.

Gold earrings-$2. Cutee earrings.

Not bad at all for a spontaneous visit to that end. Yo, Culture Cynic, when are we going shopping sef?

Ruffles and Frills

I recently went shopping with a friend, and we hopped into Forever21. I must say that I was quite disgusted by all the ruffles and frills. Every top had some type of ruffle or frill, all the party dresses were extra short like 25" long. I was like haba, who is going to wear this one now? Na wa o...
I then walked into Charlotte Russe and some other stores and it was the same deal. That's the thing with shopping at the mall, once you see one type of style, you've pretty much seen 'em all. Even JCPenney had ruffles and frills.

Speaking of Forever21 sha...isn't this linen jumper from their Heritage81 line the cuteness?

I think these leggings are tres cute. I saw them and instantly thought YAY! Showed it to 2 people...one was on the fence, and the other one thought it was also a YAY. What do you think?

Urban Outfitters: The great big ripoff + wishlist

If you know me, you will know/eventually know that I looooove me some Urban Outfitters. If they had a customer appreciation card, I would have racked up mad rewards points. I stay checking their website for the good sales and deals 'cos errr I don't buy anything full price from them sha, they really be thinking they are Gucci or something with those their price points.
So in my usual fashion, I was peeping the website today and what did I see?
This bag that they are selling for $68

Well, guess what? I have that bag. I got mine from Forever21 last summer and it cost $20, so biko why Urban Outfitters wan triple the price na, for the same exact thing.

E be laik say I go start to dey shine small eye for that website 'cos there was this other cardigan that i got from UO, went to Forever21 and the ish was like half the price. Mchewwww...nonsense and ingredients.

But despite it all, I still love me some Urban Outfitters o jare. From their site, I want these like right now.

1. Striped romper...this is soooo cute.

2. Dolman hoodie. I absolutely love this, very hot stuff.

3. Frye woven slingback...these would be purrfect for summer.

Organizing your closet

My closet is one of my treasured things. It is like my mini pride and joy, sometimes I walk in, look around and smile. (Don't call me weird o)...

I smile because I look at all my fabulous, and may I add CHEAP finds.
I smile because it's always so neat and organized. So yeah that's the point of this post---> Organizing your closet.

After I moved into my new apartment, I was slightly disappointed to find that the current closet is much smaller than the other closet. It's still a walk-in closet but it's not as spacy as my old closet. So moving in, I had to work with space and I just wanted to share some tips/ideas that I applied to my own closet.

1. The shoes. Like I've mentioned a million times already, I own a large # of shoes and for me, the only way to keep things neat and organized is to store them in shoe boxes. It got to a point that I would go to stores and ask if they had any shoe boxes that they were throwing out in the trash and I'd snatch 'em up.

The next question is...'How do I keep track of all my shoes especially if they aren't in the original boxes?'

I say grab a sticky pad, some tape and a pair of scissors and write down the description of the specific shoe and sticky it to the box. For instance, if you walk into my closet, you will see descriptions such as 'Steve madden snake print' or 'Banana republic yellow flats'.
That way, I know which box contains which pair of shoes.

I then stack the boxes neatly against the walls of my closet and that solves the problem of having shoes littered all over the place/under my bed/in random corners.

2. Clutch purses, belts, winter scarves, hats, arm warmers and leg warmers. I used to order a bunch of stuff from Urban Outfitters and they'd send me my orders in big, colorful boxes. I liked the UO boxes back in the day, but I used to throw them out till one day I got inspiration from someone else's closet (Yes people, it's cool to copy...lol) and I decided to stack all my accessories in those boxes.
In one box, I stack all my clutch purses/shoulder sling bags/smaller bags. If you want self, you can stick your bigger purses in those boxes, but I generally opt to lay my bigger bags flat on the top shelf of my closet.
In another box, I folded my winter scarves and stashed them in there.
In the third box, I stuck my berets, hats (I have a lot of these), arm warmers and leg warmers.
In the last box, I neatly rolled up all my belts and stash them in there...in order.
So if you walk into my closet, you will see 4 boxes neatly arranged on the wall opposite the shoes.
I also have a mini box, which I use to stack all my sunglasses and shakommended glasses in.
PS:- I cut the tops off all the boxes.

3. Now, on to the actual clothing. The previous 2 tips, solve my accessory problem. Now on to the clothes...
My closet has 2 long shelves/racks along each wall. On one side, I hung my blazers, sweaters, work shirts...all color coded.
The other side has my pants, dresses and skirts which I double folded so that they won't look sloppy. I also color code these...

The top of my closet racks/shelves hold my jeans (color coded and neatly folded), my cardigans (ditto) and some bulky sweater dresses.
The other top side has my big bags which I lay neatly stacked on top of each other, and some cute wire mesh baskets that I got from the $1 store, in which I put my lotions, perfumes, deodorant, nail polish and other random stuff.

And there ladies and any applicable gentlemen, is my closet! My mini-pride and joy. I wish I could share pictures...I will look into it.

The general consensus, when people see my closet is ...'wow, you're so organized'. lol. So me kwa, I wanted to share the organizational tips with you. Even if you live in a closet apartment in NYC, where there is a will, there is a way and when your stuff is organized, it will look even brighter and spacier.

Momma dearest came to stay with me for the holidays and you know how folk from Naija tend to shop, shop, shop. One eve she dragged me to DSW with her, and I grumbled about it the entire time. I mean, my mother can shop! I know who I got it from, but that's beside the point...
When she went to check out, the guy at the register asked if we wanted to sign up for the DSW rewards program and I said 'sure'! Reward programs are always cool in my book.
Long story short, she spent quite a bit there and I received a $50 coupon in the mail about a month later. *cheeses*

Now, since I'm such a huge e-shopper I tend to check out http://www.retailmenot.com/ for additional discounts and on top of this $50 coupon, I applied a $5 off any purchase of $50 or more...so therefore, I ended up paying a whopping $13 (Tax and shipping) for some $60 shoes and my o my, I can not wait to get 'em in the mail.

I read the reviews, and I think they will be fabulousness. Will keep you guys posted.

PS:- As an owner of 70+ pairs of shoes, I tend to ignore some others when I get new additions. One of my spring/summer resolutions is to be an equal opportunity wearer. I never bother in the winter time 'cos yours truly is just trying to stay warm so I just end up wearing the same ol' shoes to work.

Ooooh weeee! Those pieces make me SO ready for summer. Unfortunately it's supposed to snow a good 12 inches around these parts tomorrow.
My new thing now as you can so obviously see, are jumpers, rompers, playsuits and the likes. I think the grey linen romper will be the numero uno purchase.

Meanwhile, Salvation army has a 50% off all clothing items sale every last saturday of the month and so this last saturday I went exploring and came away with the most fabulous finds.

1. Black sequin tube top. $1.50. It's 'show bele-ish', and I imagine the most adventurous I'll be is to wear it with an open blazer or something. I'll figure it out, it's fabulous tho!

2. A red leather high waist mini skirt- $1.50. It was actually supposed to be $10, 50% off the original price of $20 but in the process of trying it on, I guess the tag fell off and I didn't know 'cos I was pretty surprised when I went to the register and the cashier rang it up along with my sequin tube and everything came up to $3.00 and some change. I thought she missed out on something but then I realized what happened and I figured, hey finders keepers right? right!
It's more of a brighter red than it appears in the pic but you get the general idea...

So yep, 2 fab items for less than a Mickey D meal. Niiice.

On that note, I think I am all shopped out! Jeez, I never knew this day would come. I think of shopping and I am soooo not excited. How sad? does that mean this blog will die?

1. These peep toe shoes. Me likeyyyy....Between this one and #2, which would you say you prefer?

2. I'm kinda on the fence about these. What do you guys think?
3. I love long cardigans, they are good for layering and all. I especially like this color, I think it'd be a nice addition to the wardrobe.

4. These lace fingerless gloves are too cute. They'd be an interesting addition to any outfit.

5. Loves this bag. I'm not a huge bag person but lately I've been looking for a cute, big one with a pop of color for my 1 million black dresses. These are pretty nice!

6. These boots are on my fantasy wishlist 'cos at $330 who is buying? Not me! Maybe I need to invest in a sugar daddy.

10 Shopaholic/Fashion/Beauty Tid-bits

1. I almost never buy anything at full price
2. Those booties might be the most expensive shoes that I have in my collection. I have a bunch of lovely shoes that I have been lucky enough to buy off sites like Ebay, or at Goodwill stores, Salvation army and consignment shops. Plus, the fact that I just mentioned that I almost never buy anything at full price.
3. Don't sleep on Thrift stores and Consignment shops. Among some of my notable thrift store finds are a pair of $6 BCBG heels, $8 Paolo heels, $14 Franco Sarto T-straps...ya dig? Don't sleep on that good stuff.
4. I am currently in the search for the perfect off-white dress, preferably something mod. Ebay, where art thou?
5. Other things on my current wishlist include: A vintage style jumpsuit/romper, mustard tights, the oh-so trendy high waist skirt and more basic tee's.
6. I'd never spend money on MAC makeup when the L'oreal H.I.P collection exists. Pshawwww...don't sleep y'all!
7. I could spend hours on sites like Chictopia and Streetpeeper. I love to see street style and how people put stuff together.
8. That doesn't neccessarily make me a fashionista.
9. I am a hugeee accessory junkie. I think I own more shoes and accessories than actual clothes.
10. I have never spent money on perfume. In my opinion, there are more important things to buy like shoes. :-D

2 new shoes....

I have rougly around 70 pairs of shoes which range from 4 inch heels to converse sneakers, but one day I realized that I didn't own any ankle boots and I made a mental note to buy 1 or 2 within the next couple of months. Seems like I've met my quota with these babies.
1. Urban Outfitters Seychelles Lou Bootie. I saw these babies on sale and there was a giftcard waiting to be used to I figured, why not?
I love 'em to bits. If you love 'em too, you can cop a pair for yourself here in black or 'grey' even though it looks more like a natural color online and in person---> Seychelles Lou Bootie

2. Bakers Ankle boots. Ok I saw these on someone during the holidays and I was like 'I loooove your shoes'. Come to find out I was randomly browsing the bakers site the other day and stumbled on these babies on sale.Just had to have 'em!

Not new to blogging.

I started this up 'cos I love to shop. Shopping is my sport, and there's nothing like the rush of finding a really good bargain so I figured, why not start a lil somn up to document my shop-tales and the stuff that I want in my life right now.
Hence, the birth of this blog.

Ummm...I don't plan to make this all about me. I'll post good deals to random finds, for interested individuals and what not...let's see how it goes. :-D
